Proper Disposal of Alcohol-Based Sanitizer Products

As explained by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in their guide “How to Dispose of and Recycle Alcohol-Based Hand Sanitizer”, hand sanitizers are classified as hazardous waste due to their alcohol content. Improper disposal can pose fire hazards, environmental risks, and compliance violations.

The EPA recommends handling expired or unused sanitizer through approved hazardous waste management channels, ensuring safe transportation and recycling when possible. Businesses, in particular, must follow federal and state guidelines to remain compliant.
