The proper management of chemical waste is crucial for maintaining the health and safety of the University and its surrounding communities, as well as preserving the environment. In accordance with federal and state regulations, all generators of chemical waste must undergo training and adhere to appropriate waste management and disposal procedures. Failure to comply with these regulations can result in significant fines and penalties.
The definition and management practices of chemical waste are outlined by the United States Environmental Protection Agency and the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control. The University of Delaware, committed to exceeding these regulations, has established policies and procedures, as stated in University Policy 7-18, to ensure compliance with federal and state requirements.
