Household Hazardous Waste Recycling Events

ERG is hosting 3 household hazardous waste collection recycling events this Saturday, May 20,2017.

****Please be sure to review your community flyer carefully, each event is different and has separate details, accepted items & hours, and items not accepted.  

  1.  RRRASOC (Resource Recovery & Recycling Authority)event: Milford location. Residents from the following communities may participate:  Farmington, Farmington Hills, Milford, Milford Township, Novi, South Lyon, Southfield, Walled Lake and Wixom.

ERG is a proud service provider for many communities within Michigan, Ohio and Indiana.  Each community event has individual requirements for participation, registration and accepted items. We take pride in well organized events that help keep communities beautiful.

Who can attend these recycling events?  ID required

1.  RRRASOC -if you live in one of the listed cities, and please note South Lyon & Walled Lake have some specific addresses that apply.

2. Wayne County–All Wayne County residents are welcomed to participate.

3.  Bloomfield Township:  Bloomfield Township residents only, don’t forget your ID.

4.  Grosse Pointe Woods–You must be a resident of Grosse Pointe Woods and present either a valid park pass or driver’s license as proof of residency.

5.  Clinton County- Clinton County residents are welcome to participate in this community event, see link for registration.

6.  Bay City –Bay City Residents Only.  Please be prepared with your identification.

Spring Cleaning Household Hazardous Waste Drop off

It’s a great time of year to go through your home, sheds, garage, basement to clean out & dispose of items properly during Spring Cleaning. Poison prevention week and Spring cleaning go hand in hand for the safety of all, especially children and animals.  You will want to look for items that you no longer use, or don’t like the product, or expired.  Do not throw chemicals away or do not pour them down a drain or sink.  Never flush medications down toilets or drains. Don’t forget electronic waste, please recycle with ERG!

ERG has 2 locations for residential drop off: Livonia, MI & Bowling Green, OH.  Our household hazardous drop off center accepts items & hazardous materials, chemicals, electronics, batteries, light bulbs and medication & medical sharps.  See link below for the full list. Here are some common items to look for and places to purge during your spring cleaning for poison prevention week.

Common items & Places to Purge:

Laundry Room/Basement:

Stain removers, laundry detergents, fabric softener, spray starch, any aerosol cans. old electronics

Under the kitchen sink:

Window cleaner, bleach, multi use cleaners, drain openers, waxes, polishes, furniture products, floor cleaners & waxes, aerosol cans, dishwasher detergents, dish soap, corrosive products, carpet shampoo, carpet stain remover,

Bathroom:

Expired medication, bathroom cleansers, drain openers, expired vitamins or over the counter medication, nail polish, nail polish remover, old make up, electronics, lotions, aerosol cans, hair spray products, hair dye, cold medication, cologne, perfume, room deodorizing spray, sharps, needles (put in a hard, rigid container), contact solution, contact cleaner, old shampoo & conditioner, thermometers

Garage/Shed: 

Oil, antifreeze, waxes, polish, transmission fluid, old gas, engine cleaner, carpet cleaner, spray paint, house paint, paint thinner, varnish, lacquers, adhesives, glues, mineral spirits, grease, any type of insect killer, any type of weed killer, aerosol cans, lubricants, pressurized containers & tanks, fuel

Throughout your home:

Batteries, light bulbs, electronics: cell phones, tv’s, monitors, ipads, tablets, ipod, mp3 players, smoke detectors, printers, computers, laptops
